Dear Nancy, Please accept my sincere and deep condolences at the tragic loss of your husband and son. My prayer for you and your family is that you might feel the Lord's presence and peace during this time of loss and sorrow. May you feel His arms of love envelop you and comfort you. I have been praying for your family and will continue.

Jerilyn Stanka, Katy, Texas

No words can possibly express the deep sense of loss - Fine, Fine men. Our prayers are with you and yours in the hope that the Joy that Steve brought with him where ever he went will, with time, return to you and you family.

Daniel & Barbara Bloomer, Lafayette, LA

My deepest sympathy for your loss. I worked for Steve at Sonat and El Paso. He was a great boss and one of the most entertaining people with which to work. I don't have room for all the funny things he did and stories he told in this post, but I do want to say that many, many people will miss him, including me. What I loved the most is they way he spoke about Mark and Samantha, and oh, when he talked about Nancy he lit up. He spoke of the first time he saw Nancy across campus, how smitten he was, and that feeling never left him. You could tell where his heart was. You are continually in my prayers as well Mark's family.

Dear Murray family We are saddened to hear this news We are attending the AAPG meeting in Australia and so many are remembering him here. We both remember him from the ARCO days All our love

I lost one of my oldest "oil patch" friends when Steve's plane went down. When Steve started with the Geosciences Group at ARCO, in 1975, his office was right next door to mine. He was working on a uranium project, but his passion was trading copper futures; seems like once a day I'd hear the phone slam down and a howl go up - Steve was still perfecting his timing in those days. I could fill pages with "Murray stories" and so could countless other people; he was larger than life in a lot of ways and will be missed greatly. Nancy and Samantha, Our hearts and thoughts are with you. Bob & Gayle

Dear Nancy, Samantha, and Juanita, I cannot properly express the grief that I felt when I heard about Steve and Mark. Sometimes God calls people home early, we will never understand why. I loved sharing a moment with you all in Bloomington earlier this year. You are wonderful people and I wish you strength and tranquility. Andy Thomas and Thomas family

Andy, Sally, David, and Claire Thomas, Perth, Western Australia, Aus

My heart aches with yours, Nancy & Samantha, during this time. Sending you love and support...

Steven Mark Murray, age 67, of Houston, Texas, died tragically in a private plane accident on Sunday, August 30, 2015, in Kewanee, IL. Steve was born on April 5, 1948 in Urbana IL to Haydn and Juanita Murray. Steve married Nancy Goshorn on August 29, 1970 and they lived in Santa Monica CA, Dallas TX, Lafayette LA, & Houston TX.

Steve attended The Pingry School in New Jersey, Duke University (BS) and the University of Southern California (MS in Geology and PhD in Geochemistry). Steve shared his passions, his laughter, and his smiles with a huge cadre of friends, traveling the world, often including Nancy.

Steve is survived by loving wife Nancy and daughter Samantha, daughter-in-law Gretchen and adored grandsons Haydn and Zane. Survivors include his mother Juanita Murray of Bloomington IN, sisters Marilyn (Andy) and Lisa (Peter) and many cousins and nephews. His son Mark died with him.
