Senya Susan Morrow Lemus, 76, of Houston, Texas, passed away on December 29, 2015, surrounded by family after a prolonged illness. Born on May 6, 1939 in Liberty, Texas, she grew up in and around Liberty, Anahuac, and Beaumont. Senya had many fond memories growing up with her two sisters and her large extended family in Liberty. She was a favorite and learned much from the strong matriarchs of her family and even acted as a chauffeur on a cross-country trip with her “Mommy” and “Grammy” at the age of 13. She was extremely bright, graduating from high school a year early and speeding through college. There she met her husband Luis, who she married on September 12, 1958.
Senya and Luis settled in Houston, living in the Briarcroft neighborhood for over 40 years. When it came to her sons, Senya always gave of herself to ensure that they were well rounded. She was always willing to lend a hand and volunteer at their school, The Kinkaid School, working in the library for several years. She supported her sons in their many activities and travelled with them extensively.
Senya was a devoted member of the Republican party, actively volunteering at the Harris County Republican Headquarters. She was active with Magic Circle Republican Women’s Club and helped to form American Women Supporting the President for which she acted as Treasurer. She joined Women for Reagan met President Reagan and attended his inauguration. She worked tirelessly fundraising, canvasing, and serving as a precinct chairman holding elections for many years. Senya was interested in music, theater, and arts and supported many organizations Houston as a season ticket holder. Senya enjoyed genealogy and was proud to trace her ancestry back to Austin’s Old Three Hundred in Texas and to the American Revolution. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the Republic of Texas, among others, along with her mother and sister.
Senya was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 50 years Luis Lemus, Jr., her mother Bell Cain Morrow, and sisters Carolyn Stubblefield and Vance Lee Jennings. She is survived by her three sons, Luis III, Christopher, and Robert, four grandchildren Luis Carlos, Morgana, Alexandra, and Elesha, her sister Barbara Ray, and many uncles, cousins and extended family.

In lieu of the flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, http://www.alz.org/join_the_cause_donate.asp in memory of Senya or any loved one who has lived with the disease. The family would like to extend special thanks to the St. Martin’s Pastoral Care team, the staff at Colonial Oaks Pearland, and the hospice team for their exceptional care.
