Rosemarie Jeanne McCulloch Hughes, born the 5th of July 1925, in New York City, to Joanna Tyne and Leonard McCulloch, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, the 26th of June 2014.

An honors graduate from Hunter College in Manhattan, Rosemarie retired from Shell Oil Company in 1986 after 40 years of service. She was married to Arthur Hughes who predeceased her in 1984. An avid patron of the fine arts, Rosemarie served on the Board of Trustees of the Houston Grand Opera and was a National Patron of the Metropolitan Opera in New York. She funded a perpetual scholarship in her name at Hunter College and served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Scholarship and Welfare Fund of Hunter College. Rosemarie will be remembered for her lifelong love of ballroom dancing, world travel and her tireless generosity.

She is survived by her long-time friend and opera partner, Jason Hanlon.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Jorge Vasquez, A.W. Downing Mears, Jr., Michael Hendryx, Bobby R. Reynolds, Pat B. McDonald, and Jon Pike.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation from six until eight o’clock in the evening on Monday, the 30th of June, at the Bradshaw-Carter Home, 1734 West Alabama Street in Houston, where the rosary is to commence at seven o’clock.

The funeral mass is to be offered at half-past ten o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 1st of July, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Drive in Houston, where the Most Reverend Vincent M. Rizzotto is to serve as celebrant.

The Rite of Committal is to follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
