Mary Myldred Wright Simon, 97, peacefully went to be with the Lord on January 20, 2015 surrounded by her family.
She was born on April 2, 1917 in La Forge, Missouri to Mary Francis Gardner Wright and Fredrick Alexander Wright. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Fred Alexander Wright and Ronald Elmo Wright, her husband Walter B. “Bud” Simon, and her son Gerry W. Simon.
Myldred is survived by her loving son Dr. Terry L. Simon and his wife Deborah Thompson Simon; niece Nancy Wright Lund and her husband Ralph W. Lund of Naples, Florida; nephew Dr. Fred S. Wright and his wife Carol Colin Wright of Guilford, Connecticut; grand-children: Kelly Jo Simon Stuth and husband Roger Stuth; William P. Simon and wife Jennifer Nitsche Simon; Mary Katherine Simon Koch and husband Garett Koch; James, Cameron, Elizabeth and Virginia Simon; great grand-children: Leonard Stewart III, Madeline Garcia, Roger Stuth II, Patrick and Zachary Simon, Hunter, Ben and Bella Koch; great great grand-children Isabella and Gianni. She is also survived by her Thompson grandchildren: Brooke Thompson and Rachel Thompson McConn and her husband John Luke McConn IV, as well as her extended Aspromonte Family.
Myldred grew up in Paragould, Arkansas and graduated from Paragould High School. She attended Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and the University of Missouri where she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. Myldred met the love of her life, Bud Simon in Paragould, married and eventually moved to Corpus Christi and Baytown, Texas where they raised their sons. They ultimately settled in Kingwood, Texas where Myldred was a member of the Kingwood United Methodist Church. Many friends affectionately referred to her as a “prayer warrior” since she devoted at least an hour a day to the prayer chain.
Myldred will be remembered by her beautiful smile, her positive outlook on life, her love of flowers, gardening, and her passion for music. She was recently asked the secret to living a long life, she replied, “Living one day at a time, keeping on keeping on and having her chocolate ice cream every night for dessert.” She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many, especially her Grove Lake Drive neighbors, who called her the quintessential lady. We will miss her very much.
We would like to thank all the incredible and loving staff at Holly Hall Retirement Community and Belmont Village at West University. A special thank you to Dr. Martin White and Dr. Sarah Selleck for their excellent care and kind compassion.
Friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances of Mary from five o’clock in the afternoon until eight o’clock in the evening on Friday, the 23rd of January 2015 at the Bradshaw-Carter Home, 1734 W. Alabama Street in Houston. A private, family burial will take place on Saturday, the 24th of January 2015.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be made to Holly Hall, 2000 Holly Hall Street, Houston, Texas 77054 (www.hollyhall.org) or Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, Texas 77030 (www.houstonhospice.org).
Condolences may be offered and recollections shared at www.bradshawcarter.com and The Houston Chronicle obituary at www.chron.com.
