I just recently had the opportunity to get to know Mark at his grandfathers memorial service, and he made a lasting impression with his sense of humor and down to earth personality. I was looking forward to getting to know him better. He is gone much to soon. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and sons, they are blessed to have a loving family to support them in this time of need, now and always.

Mark Haydn Murray, age 38, of Houston, Texas, died tragically in a private plane accident on Sunday, August 30, 2015, in Kewanee, IL. Mark was born on October 22, 1976 in Plano, TX to Steven and Nancy Murray. The Murray family lived in Lafayette, LA before settling in Houston in 1984. He graduated from The Kinkaid School in 1995.

Mark attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO where he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and earned his Bachelor of Science in Geology in 2000. At CSU he met his future wife, Gretchen Young, marrying on August 10, 2002, in Colorado Springs, CO. They established their home in Houston and were blessed with two sons: Haydn Thomas, and Zane Steven. He spent 15 years working in the oil industry, most recently with Wild Well Control as a Response Planning Manager. Mark was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying time with his family at the beach, teaching his boys to hunt, fish and surf. He was also skilled in wood/metal works and auto restoration. He enjoyed sharing all of his passions with others.

Mark is survived by his loving wife Gretchen, adoring sons Haydn and Zane, mother Nancy Murray, sister Samantha Murray, who all reside in Houston, and paternal grandmother, Juanita Murray of Bloomington, IN. Survivors also include his parents-in-law Thomas and Delores Young of Colorado Springs, CO, brother-in-law Kevin Young, niece McKenna Young and nephew Connor Young, all of Pearland, TX. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. His father, Steven, died with him. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Haydn Murray and maternal grandparents, Edward and Elizabeth Goshorn.

The memorial service will be held at four o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, September 18, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2140 Westheimer Rd. in Houston.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at any Wells Fargo Bank to the Haydn and Zane Murray Education Donation Fund #4453. Instruct the bank teller to look under the “Confidential Tab”. Thank you for the outpouring of support and love.
