To Carol & Amber, I am sorry for the loss of a husband and father. May you both rely heavily on God during this time for strength. And may you find comfort in knowing that God will soon do away with death, pain and mourning forever.

Lorri Mason, Spring, Tx

Carol and family, I just read this site about Lewis. It was beautifully written. I know that you will all miss him greatly. Always have comfort in knowing that he is now with his true Father in heaven where there is no pain and no illness. He is now at peace and will truly rest. May God give you strength to continue living a meaningful life, as I am sure Lewis would have wanted. God bless you ! Soraya,Terry, Lorenzo and Zachary

There are no words to describe the pain and loss for our family. I will just quote an old arcadian song (miroloi): "Θειούλη μου, επήρες δρόμο μακρινό, που πάει και δε γυρίζει, ανάθεμά σε ξενιτιά, με τα καλά που έχεις, Θειούλη μου, αρρώστησες δεν το ’μαθε, επέθανες δεν ήρθε, στο θάνατό σου να βρεθεί τα μάτια σου να κλείσει, να σου στολίσει το κορμί, να σε μοιρολογήσει". May the ones he left behind honor his memory. Sofia.

Sofia, Athens, Greece

Kostas, your brother

Lewis J. Pappas, 74, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, the 20th of May 2014, in Houston.
Born on the 8th of September 1939, he was the oldest of four children from the small village of Stavrodromi, Arcadia located in the Southern Peloponnese of Greece. He left his family behind at the young age of sixteen with three important things: honor, a strong work ethic and compassion for his fellow man. His parents, Panagiota and Ioannis Papakonstantinou, taught him these three characteristics, as well as many other valuable life lessons that would remain with him throughout his journey in life.
After earning his degree in Marine Engineering, Lewis served his country by joining the Greek Royal Navy. He made his way to Houston, Texas in 1964, after his time in the service.
Lewis began working for Brown & Root from 1966-1972, where he traveled extensively to destinations such as Angola in West Africa and also to Alaska as an Assistant Port Engineer. From 1978-1990, he owned a service station in Southwest Houston on Chimney Rock and Braeswood. And in 1994, he started a family-owned erosion control company, which remained in business for 16 years until he retired in 2009 at the age of 70.
Lewis was involved in many activities throughout his life including: serving as a chanter for the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral; a member of AHEPA; the founder of the Arcadians of Texas (an organization to help American born Greek children learn and appreciate their Greek heritage); he was a 32nd degree Mason for Masonic Lodge #4; and had an extraordinary gift for cooking and shared his passion with family and friends.
Lewis was known and respected as a hard-working, straightforward and successful businessman. However, the greatest roles he held in his life were those of son; brother; husband; father; and grandfather, always putting his love and honor of God and the needs of his family before his own needs.
While he will be sorely missed by his family and friends, his legacy will live on through the lives of the many people who knew and loved him. His selfless acts touched the lives of many, but were known by only a few. Lewis is survived by his loving wife Carol; his devoted daughter Amber; son-in-law Taso; his beloved grandson, Socrates; sister-in-law Susan; as well as many family members and friends in Greece, including his most-loved brother Kosta; sister-in-law Anna, and nieces Panagiota and Sophia.
You left us too soon Papou, but we will carry you with us forever in our hearts. We will miss you and think about you each and every day. May your memory be eternal!
Visitation will be on Tuesday, the 27th of May 2014, from five until seven o’clock in the evening with Trisagion Prayers at seven o’clock at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3511 Yoakum Blvd. The funeral service will be held at noon the following day, Wednesday, the 28th of May 2014, at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Burial will follow at Forest Park Westheimer, 12800 Westheimer.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral Altar and Benevolent Fund, 3511 Yoakum Blvd., Houston, TX, 77006.
