I am very saddened to hear of the loss of Keith. When I was growing up, we played together at my sister's house and his uncle George. I always thought he was just the cutest guy ever! I also loved his beard as we got older. Sad to say I haven't seen him in 30-40 years, but does not dismiss the sadness I feel for him and his family. I lost another friend on a motorcycle this past year, so it's a tragedy in itself to see this happen. My condolences to all - and a big hug to his wife and kids!

Dear Hoak Family, We are saddened to hear of your sudden loss. Please accept our heartfelt condolences.

Janie , Pasadena, TX

Please accept my deepest condolences to the Hoak family. While I did not have the pleasure of knowing Keith personally, my sister Becky Chapman worked at Arden's many years ago. Arden's was where Becky began honing her picture framing skills. I'd like to think there might be a picture framing shop up in Heaven, and Becky is asking Keith to come help her. Also, my brother Matt Chapman used to deliver frame supplies from CMI. I called him up in Alaska and told him of Keith's sudden passing. He also sends his deepest sympathies. May God bless each of you and I pray you will all find comfort and peace in time. - Sharon Chapman

I have been a customer of Keith and Ardith's for 37 years. My family and I are currently on vacation out of town, and I am so sorry I will be unable to attend services for Keith. I am devastated to hear the tragic news of his sudden death. He will be greatly missed. I have never known a more gentle, kind and professional person. To Ardith, whom I saw with Keith shortly before my family and I left on vacation, I am so very sorry you have lost such a wonderful brother you worked so closely with on a daily basis. I pray for strength and comfort for you and Keith's wife and the rest of his and your family.

Keith was a Prince of a Man! We looked forward to visiting with him at all of our Hou-Tex activities. Keith always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes whenever he told us about what he and Susan had been doing. Amanda, you were the apple in his eye! Your dad would beam with pride as he kept us up to date on you and your current activities. Keith, we will miss your smiling face and your ZZ Top beard! Our thoughts, love, & prayers go out to your family, Love & peace, John & Sandy Lawrence Hou-Tex

Dear Susan, Amanda, Ardith and Paul, My heart breaks for each of you and I'm filled with unspeakable sadness for you and for all that knew Keith. Over the past 30 years that I've had the privilege to know Keith as a friend and work with him as a colleague; he has been a shining example for me and for our framing industry.

Our hearts ache for Susan and the rest of the Hoak family. We celebrate the beautiful person that Keith was, and we will keep his memory alive. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hoaks. Rest well, dear friend. We believe that when you arrived in heaven, God said, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." Et lux perpetua luceat eis.

I first met Keith over 20 years ago when I needed something framed. He was so knowledgeable about his craft, and combined with his personality, well it was an unbeatable combination. I have never gone anywhere else since then. I enjoyed the chances we had to talk about a wide range of topics. He was such a kind, gentle, sweet man, and he will be greatly missed.

Phillip Knox, Houston, TX

I first meet Keith when Amanda and my son were in high school together. When I would drop Tristan at the frequent parties, Keith greeted each high schoolers with a big smile and they responded in kind. It takes a very special person to be accepted and enjoyed by 16 and 17 year olds. I am saddened that Keith, a kind, gentle man who enjoyed life to its fullest, is no longer with us.

Karin Vrolijk, Houston, TX

We are both saden by the news, he was one of the most welcoming person when we joined into the Hou-Tex chapter he will be so missed by all.

"May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sunshine warm upon your face, and rains fall softly upon your fields. May God hold you in the palm of His hand." Dearest Keith, I became your client in the year 2001; your honest, gentle smile and kindness made me leave your shop feeling like I just left my best friend. I pass by your gallery, your home, on my way to work every day thinking that you will always be there protecting your beloved family and welcoming all of us.

Mercede Shabal Colby (St. Mark Fine Arts Restoration) , Houston, TX

Keith was absolutely one-of-a-kind. I remember the first time I saw him - picking Amanda up from school on his bike. Met him and Susan several times at school functions, and you could just tell there was a very strong bond there. When my son graduated from college, it was a no-brainer as to who was going to frame his diploma. I was greeted at the frame shop like family - and the diploma looks terrific! We are all so fortunate to have known him, even peripherally. Love and prayers to the family. You are not alone. Rest in peace, Keith - you will be missed!

Kurt Zimmerman, Torrance, Ca

My heart is broken for Keith's family - Susan, Paul, Ardeth, his children and all his loved ones. I met Keith while still in Junior High since Paul was one of my best friends. We enjoyed many good times at his home cooking, listening to music and enjoying each other. Keith was the big brother you wanted and Paul and Ardeth were so lucky to have him. He would do anything for a friend, and I got to expeirence that first hand. I remember Paul and I going to buy Keith & Susan a wedding gift, which I'm sure they enjoyed ~ I know he lived a good life with many that loved him. He will be so missed. May God give comfort and some type of peace in the days ahead for his family and friends. With heart felt love for the Hoak family ~ Gina

I went there this past Wednesday to pick up a piece that had been framed for a friend. I'd heard how unique Arden's was, but that was my first time to visit. Keith was so friendly and helpful, and you could just tell that he had the most wonderful heart. I could have hung out there all day, just listening and soaking in his kindness and compassion. I am so deeply sorry to learn that he has left this world, but I would be willing to bet that he left a profoundly unique imprint in the hearts and lives of many people as he took his journey through his life. My heartfelt condolences to his loved ones and friends.

The first time I met Keith and the Arden Picture Framing family was in 1981. I believe Keith was about 23 or 24 at the time. Charlie's Gallery had a couple hundred stamp prints that needed framing and no framer. A dentist who was a client referred Arden's to me. That was the beginning of a beautiful ongoing relationship with all of you that has lasted to this day. All I can say from the bottom of my heart is that I loved Keith and I love all of you. I posted this on my FB page and would like to share it with Keith's family. It is with deep sadness that I post the passing of my good friend Keith Hoak of Arden's Picture Framing. I was notified yesterday that Keith was riding his motorcycle with a group of friends and was hit by a drunk driver. Instantly we all lost a great man. I am honored to have known Keith for over thirty years. We met while I was searching for a framer for my FIRST completed artwork. We recognized each other as we both had children attending St. Anne's Catholic School. He framed every single major piece of artwork that I have produced over the last 35 years including the last artwork I took to him two weeks ago. I wish I had gone to pick it up when he called me to let me know it was ready. I would have been able to see and talk to him one more time. I am honored to have met this sweet, soft spoken, wonderful man who always personally took care of my framing needs because he knew I always expected perfection and I knew he would deliver perfection every single time. We would always talk about our children and how they were doing. I offer my condolences to his wife Susan. Amanda and Justin, please know that my heart goes out to you. To Keith's brother and sister who worked along side him on a daily basis, my condolences to you. Goodbye my friend. You are already greatly missed. Gary/Josie Hernandez

Keith Arden Hoak died on July 5, 2015, while doing what he loved, riding his motorcycle.
He was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston on January 18, 1958, to Arden Keith Hoak and Christine Woodhouse Hoak. Keith is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 30 years, Susan Hoak; daughter, Amanda Hoak; step-son, Justin Backman; grandchildren, Victoria Backman and Yamur Samli; siblings, Ardith Hoak, Patricia Mathews, and Paul Hoak; godchildren, Alex Shults and Katya Makarov, and nieces Serah (Brian) Ingram and Jennifer Mathews, and grandniece and nephews Avery, Aiden, and Grayson.
Keith attended Sharpstown High School and the University of Houston. Following his father’s death when Keith was 18 and as the oldest of four children, he stepped in and became a father figure to his three younger siblings. He took over ownership of Arden’s Picture Framing, founded in 1959 by his father. Keith worked at his father’s shop from the age of 8. Some believe that he was born with a hammer and vice in his hands.
Over the years, Keith became one of the most respected members of the Houston picture framing industry. In 2001, he was recognized by the local chapter of the Professional Picture Framers Association, with the Outstanding Service Award, first presented to and named after his father.
Keith met his wife, Susan, in 1984, and they were married in 1986. They were perfectly matched, and inspired others to believe that true love was possible.
Keith was a long standing member of the San Jacinto HOGs (Harley Owners Group) and their historian for over 20 years. He served as a Charter member of both the national and local HOG.
Music played an important part of Keith’s life. He and his family attended the Kerrville Folk Festival for over 25 years. Keith volunteered his time and money to numerous organizations, including the Man Kind Project, for over ten years. He was also an active member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church.
Keith was a pillar of the Houston community, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. He gave his time to all. He never had a mean word to say about anyone and all who knew him were blessed by his kindness and love. His tragic, unforeseen death caused by a drunk driver has left a large hole in the life of everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with family from five until eight o’clock in the evening on Friday, July 10, 2015 at the Bradshaw-Carter Home, 1734 West Alabama Street, Houston 77098. The funeral service will be held at half past nine o’clock in the morning on Saturday, July 11, 2015, at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 1805 West Alabama Street, Houston, Texas 77098. The Rite of Committal is to follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, gifts in memory of Keith may be directed to the Pediatric Brian Tumor Foundation Ride for Kids (302 Ridgefield Ct., Ashville, NC 28806); the Rector’s Discretionary Fund, St. Stephens Episcopal Church (1805 West Alabama Street, Houston, TX 77098), or the charity of one’s choice.

He is the cornerstone of our framing community and, like his father, he will always be remembered. Over the past 30 years that I've had the privilege to know Keith as a friend and work with him as a colleague; he has been a shining example for me and for our framing industry.

Linda Wassell, Spring, TX

Our hearts ache for Susan and the rest of the Hoak family. Keith was simply one of the finest people we have ever known, and we are honored to have shared motorcycle rides, trips, live music, libations, and wonderful meals with him and the Hoak family over the years.
