Jay, Patricia and Michelle. I am so saddened to hear of the loss of you precious father. He was such a wonderful man. I remember so many times seeing him at your house when I would come over to play with Patricia. What a loving person he was. Now with your momma. I wish I was in Houston to attend the service. love, Beth Ross (elizabeth deluca)

We are deeply saddened by Uncle Jimmy's passing, and only a few weeks before our scheduled trip to the US. He was a very intelligent and spirited man, always loved discussing politics and world events with him. Praying for you, Uncle Jim, and your family.

Jay, Patricia, Michelle and David -- My prayers and condolences on your loss. Jimmy always loved adventure and being with people. His laughter was part of his trademark. God gave your dad many blessings and gifts that I am sure you will all treasure and keep in your hearts. His good deeds and love fore you all will be the memories and legacies he blesses you with. Take care of each other now that both your parents are gone.

It took only moments to recognize the gentleness and mirth in Dr. D's eyes and in his soul. We met him just a few months ago and, like you, would have enjoyed many more years in his company. He leaves a legacy in our hearts. Our prayers for your loss.

James Samaniego Diamonon, M.D, F.A.C.S (December 28, 1931 - July 3, 2016) passed away peacefully in San Francisco after a short illness. Born in the Philippines, he was the proud son of the late Dr. Victoriano Dinum Diamonon and Clotilde Samaniego Diamonon.

His own family life began in storybook fashion when he met his late wife, UT graduate nursing student Maria Nieves Gonzales, at a beach party in Galveston. They wed in 1961, and together they raised their children in Houston.

Before settling in Houston and becoming an established surgeon, Dr. D completed residencies in New York and Connecticut. One of the jolliest people on the planet, Dr. D loved practicing medicine--doing so over five decades at St. Joseph Hospital where he started the emergency room department (and chaired it for over 20 years). His only goal: take care of his patients, who in turn took care of him. Dr. D was the last of the pure general surgeons who saw his patients in the Emergency Room, the office, and in the operating room. He defined Old School.

Dr. D served his community in many capacities too numerous to name here. Some of his contributions include service in the Army Reserves, Chairman of The Visiting Nurses Association, an early supporter of Dominican Montessori (now St. Catherine’s Montessori), a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, and--most delightfully-- a spirited fan and beloved team doctor of St. John’s School.

And he certainly had his fun. He hosted legendary Doctor’s Club dinners and epic cocktail parties during the Mad Men era.

In addition to his siblings Gloria Ramirez, Ernesto, Edward, and numerous relatives, he will be missed by his children Jay Diamonon and his wife Amy, Patricia Morris and her husband Brian, Michelle Donnelly and her husband Mike, and grandchildren, Patrick and Julia Diamonon, Michael and Dan Morris, Maddie Donnelly, and George and Holly Diamonon, and Kathleen Tart Diamonon--mother of Patrick and Julia. His brother, Victoriano Diamonon, Jr. preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at two o’clock in the afternoon at Bradshaw-Carter Funeral Home, 1734 West Alabama Street in Houston. A rosary will begin at three o’clock. A memorial mass will be held at ten o’clock in the morning on Monday, July 11, 2016 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 3617 Milam St., in Houston where the Archbishop Joseph Fiorenza and concelebrant Christopher T. Eggleton, O.P. will officiate. A reception will follow immediately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christus Foundation for HealthCare in memory of Dr. James S. Diamonon http://www.christusfoundation.org/give-gift-memory-honor-someone-special/ or to the charity of your choice.
