James Catsis (Dimitrios Katsigianis) born 6/1/1923, in Karpenisi, Greece, in the village of Karitsa, to Vasiliki and Vasilios Katsigianis, passed away at 92 on December 28, 2015. A devoted husband, brother and son, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife Frances of 63 years of marriage, his parents, two sisters and two brothers. James was a loving husband and a friend to many. At 14 he went to work in Athens to support his family. He served in the Greek army from 1946 to 1952, as a procurement and logistics officer. His parents were brutally murdered by the Greek Junta during WWII. James came to the U.S., to North Carolina in 1953, to marry his childhood friend Frances, who he knew for over 85 years. They came to Houston in 1955 and James worked in the restaurant business, as GM of Steve’s BBQ restaurants, and as manager of two James Coney Island restaurants. Mr. Catsis volunteered at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, was an usher for many years, ad he is a 50-year member of The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA). Visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM on Monday 1/4/2016, at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3511 Yoakum. Funeral will be at 11 AM, followed by burial at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale.
