Dear Zoya and family, despite not having seen Guus for a long time, I vividly remember him as a colleague at the NAM in the early '90s as he was a member of our team playing a business game. Full of zest and energy, joyful. We reconnected when I moved to Houston end of '99 and he moved there too. He has lived life to the fullest and is a great example. Wishing you all the very best coping with his loss whilst Guus is painting the heavens in all possible colours. Way too soon. God bless you all. Guido - the Hague, the Netherlands.

Zoya, we are so sorry for your loss. We only had the pleasure of meeting Guus once, but we had a nice conversation about his art and we bought a beautiful painting. We will always remember Guus when we look at his painting. Our thoughts are with you during this tragic time; Guus had so much more to give.

I only met him a few times, but he was always cheerful and enthusiastic. He drove me around Houston in his convertible the day before a show we were both in. I'm sad to hear of his passing.

You were a ray of sunshine and radiated extreme happiness to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing you. You loved life more than anyone we know, and now you have eternal life with Jesus and the angels. Please greet us at the pearly gates with that big smile of yours! We love you, Tom and Natasha

Guus Kemp of the Netherlands died on November 26, 2015 at the age of 55 years old. Baptized Egidius Peter Maria Kemp, he is survived by his wife, Zoya Tommy Kemp; mother Christel and brother Piet, both of the Netherlands; mother-in-law Nina Tommy of Trinidad; brother-in-laws Gabby, Nino and Ralph Tommy of Trinidad; and sister-in-law Natasha Beathe and her husband Tom of Charlotte, NC. He also leaves behind four dear friends who were like brothers: Thijs Heijenrath and Ben Van Den Brule, both of the Netherlands, Conrad McCarthy of Arizona, and Manuel Terranova of California. Guus’ father Piet Kemp passed away in the Netherlands in 2008.

Guus moved to Houston in 2000 with his employer Royal Dutch Shell, where he worked until his untimely passing. He loved Texas so much he considered it home. In 2008, Guus established a name for himself in Houston’s art community and quickly expanded his scope to include exhibitions in San Antonio, New Orleans and Paris. His most recent solo show took place on October 9 at Zoya Tommy Gallery; however, he was unable to attend due to hospitalization.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, December 3 at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2140 Westheimer, Houston TX 77098. The funeral Mass begins at half past ten o’clock in the morning and will be followed by a luncheon and celebration of his life, at Zoya Tommy Gallery, 4102 Fannin St., Houston TX 77004.

Guus requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center. To make a donation online, please visit gifts.mdanderson.org and “Give in Memory of Egidius Kemp”. Notifications to be sent to Zoya Tommy Kemp, 4102 Fannin St., Houston, TX 77004.
