What a beautiful lady! Both inside and out! Even though I just met her a few years ago...I knew from the start that she was a special lady with love in her heart. What a fantastic example of Motherhood! I know that she will be missed by those who knew her. Bill, I am sure words cannot express how much you will miss her...

Dearest Bill, We are so very sorry for the loss of your Beautiful, Sweet Mother! I have many wonderful memories of her. In all of my memories she always had a smile and kind, loving words, and her hugs were the best!! Know that we LOVE You so very much!

What a blessing Georgina was to so many. After Uncle Jim married her, she became such a bright spot in his life! She was a sweet, effervescent, and caring lady. They were such a sweet couple and made many lovely memories together. She had such a full and selfless life. May God give you comfort, strength, and peace at this time as you celebrate her beautiful life. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of sorrow.

Bill, Please accept my condolences for the loss of your mother. It takes a special person to be a great mom, but it takes an even more special person to be the mom of such an amazing son. I’ll be thinking about you and praying for you.

Georgina Downs Ulbrich, 87 of San Antonio, Texas passed away on the evening of May 30th, 2016 of natural causes, with her son Billy near her side.

Georgina Hendricks was born in San Antonio, Texas on August 27, 1928. Georgina was a native San Antonian with family roots traced back to the Alamo. Georgina was an accomplished pianist as a child, attended and graduated Brackenridge High School. She attended Trinity University and Texas A&I prior to marriage to
Dr. Terry Downs and working for Dean of Baylor College of Dentistry. Georgina and her family were long time members of First Presbyterian Church followed by Northwood Presbyterian Church where she was an active participant in church circles and teaching Sunday school.

First and foremost, however, Georgina was a loving and devoted Mother to her two sons, Terry E. Downs Jr. and William H. (Billy) Downs. She was so natural as a loving Mother that many others "adopted" her as their own. While raising her two sons, Georgina worked in education administration at North East Independent School District, the Character Education Project and San Antonio College, and contributed her keen organizational talents.

Georgina took every aspect of homemaking to an art form, including cooking, decoration and sewing, gift giving and entertaining. She was an ardent student of Julia Child, Martha Stewart, Ina Garten and Tasha Tudor. Georgina's sister-in-law, Betty Gayle Downs, once commented "Georgina could make the inside of a Kleenex Box look beautiful!” Betty Gayle introduced Georgina into the membership and sisterhood of PEO, a women's philanthropic association, of which Georgina was an active member of Chapter Y in San Antonio.

In retirement, Georgina and Jim Ulbrich were introduced by their closest and mutual best friends, Reverend George and Harriett Fischer, and were subsequently married in their 70's by George on a Caribbean Cruise they took as a four-some. Georgina and Jim enjoyed many happy years enjoying traveling, dancing, homemaking and finding love again while making friends everywhere they went.

Above all, Georgina had a child-like joy and appreciation of anything natural and beautiful, and showered those she loved with appreciation and praise for the smallest of gestures. To be in her presence was to feel loved, appreciated and special. Even in her final days at Houston Hospice the doctors and nurses called her the sweetest and most charming lady they had ever treated. For these rare traits and many more, she will be tremendously missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by: her brother: William Franklin Hendricks, her parents Ray Meredith Hendricks, and Jesse Roberts Hendricks, and her son, Terry Evans Downs Jr.

Georgina is survived by her husband, James Jennings Ulbrich of Seguin, TX and family and son William H. “Billy” Downs of Houston, TX, as well as many other loving friends.

A visitation for family and friends in Houston, will take place on Saturday, June 4th from two o’clock until four o’clock in the afternoon, at Bradshaw-Carter Funeral Home, 1734 West Alabama St. in Houston, Texas.
A memorial celebration service will be held at Northwood Presbyterian Church, San Antonio, Saturday, June 11th at three o’clock in the afternoon, located at 518 Pike Road, San Antonio, Texas, 78209. A reception will immediately follow. The family will hold a private graveside service and internment at San Jose Burial Park in San Antonio, Texas.
Memorial donations may be given to The Clarewood House Charitable Foundation of Houston, 7400 Clarewood Drive, Houston, Texas 77036, 713.774.5821; or Northwood Presbyterian Church, 518 Pike Road, San Antonio, Texas 78209, 210.824.7238.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Clarewood House, Houston Hospice and JoAnne Otten for care provided in her final year.
