Frances Daniel Moncure was born August 14, 1927, in Baltimore, Md., and died December 31, 2013, in Houston. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. John Moncure and Grace Beale Moncure, and by her three siblings, Mary Conway Collins, Isabel Hillman, and John Moncure.

Fran attended Radford College (VA.) and graduated from Duke University School of Nursing in 1949. She earned master's degrees from the University of Minnesota and Case-Western Reserve and received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Kent State University in 1972. She then came to Houston and spent the rest of her distinguished career as a Professor at the UT School of Nursing, retiring in 1991. Christ the King Lutheran Church and its music program was an important part of her life. She sang in the choir and faithfully served as a lay eucharistic minister for many years. A dedicated member of the church's AIDS Care Team in the 1980s, Fran devoted countless hours providing skilled nursing and emotional support to AIDS patients in the community and helped them live their final months with dignity, respect, and love. For these patients unable to tolerate a regular diet she developed a supplement that could sustain them nutritionally during their illness.

Fran had a highly developed sense of the absurd and always found humor in the ridiculous. She frequently traveled to visit with old friends and family and enjoyed meeting new and interesting people on her journeys.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including Kitty Latane, her husband Tom, and their daughter, Frances Moncure Latane, all of Pepin, Wisconsin, and Barbara Hillman of New York City, and her life-long friend, Jane Strickland Hennegar of Baltimore.

Special thanks to her loving caregivers: Nell Young, Cheryl Whaley, Christene Stewart, and Caroline Ndumia, and the staff at Bayou Manor.

Donations in memory of Fran may be given to the music program of Christ the King Lutheran Church, the National Parkinson Foundation, or a charity of one's choice .

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 2353 Rice Blvd.
