The Reverend Father Donald Edmund Kuder, C.S.B. died peacefully on Saturday, March 1st in Houston, Texas. His brother Robert Kuder and his sister Rita Kretchmer and several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews survive him.
Father Kuder was born in Rochester, New York on April 9, 1934 to Edmund and Mary (Schwalbach) Kuder. After graduating in 1952 from Aquinas High School in Rochester he began his studies with the Basilian Fathers. He was ordained a priest in Toronto, Canada on December 15, 1963.
In over 50 years of ministry as a Catholic priest Fr. Don had many assignments. He was a biology teacher, a religious superior, and a Master of Novices for the Basilian Fathers and campus Minister at the University of St. Thomas in Houston. Most recently and for many years he served as a member of the Houston Catholic Chaplains Corps ministering to the sick and injured and their families at Ben Taub Hospital. An abiding love of Fr. Don’s was creating and tending to gardens at each place where he was assigned. His family, his brother priests and fellow Basilians and many friends and colleagues in Houston and elsewhere mourn his passing.

There will be a Wake Service for Fr. Don at 5:00 PM on Monday, March 3rd at Saint Anne’s Church 2140 Westheimer Rd. in Houston, followed by a reception.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated that same evening at St. Anne’s at 7:00PM.
The graveside service and interment will be at Forest Park Cemetery, Lawndale on Tuesday, March 4th at 10:00AM.
A Memorial for Fr. Kuder will be arranged in Rochester, New York at a later date.
