Charles Randolph Watson, age 81, passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas on Tuesday, December 17. Charlie was born to W. R. and Nona Norwood Watson near the east Texas town of Leonard. In 1945, the family moved to Abilene, Texas where he graduated from Abilene High School. At the age of 18, he joined the Navy and served during the Korean War from 1950 to 1954. After serving in the Navy, he graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and then settled in Houston where he raised his family and sold real estate. Charlie was a steadfast and generous friend to many people. All who knew him appreciated his kind and gentle spirit. He will be missed.
He is survived by his children, Randolph P. Watson (Jean) and Melissa F. Watson (Alan); grandchildren, Nicholas and Celeste; sister, Nona R. Tauer of Abilene, Texas; brother, Lewis R. Watson (Armenia), of Sugar Land; and numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren. He is also survived by his lifelong friend, J.W. Tomlinson.
A memorial service will be held at the National Cemetery in Houston on December 23 at 11:15. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association ( or the American Lung Association (
