Betty Jo McDannald LaRue passed away February 20, 2014 in the company of family and friends. She was born March 1, 1920 in Electra, Texas, the youngest of six children born to A. T. and Jo Souther McDannald. She moved with her family to Houston in 1933 and graduated from San Jacinto High School before entering the University of Oklahoma. There she met her husband and best friend, W. H. (Bill) LaRue, Jr. They married December 22, 1941 and were together until his death on September 13, 1996.

In addition to her husband, Betty Jo was preceded in death by her parents (lovingly referred to by family members as Daddy Cap and Mama Jo) and by her siblings, Christine McDannald Hall, Francis McDannald Stark, Mildred McDannald Holmes, Gordon Cleaves McDannald and Robert Morris McDannald.

She is survived by her son, Robert and wife Edell of Houston; son Blake and wife Bonnie of Homer, Alaska; grandchildren Ryan LaRue and wife Katie and Dr. Lauren LaRue Walker and husband Neth of Houston; and granddaughters Hannah and Maggie LaRue of Homer, Alaska. She is additionally survived by a great-grandson, William Ellison Walker, also of Houston, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Betty Jo was an early and active member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and a quiet but constant advisor to her husband. Her quick smile and sweet disposition endeared her to many and will be truly missed.

The family would like to thank Kadesha Gunn and Gussie Gunn for their steadfast service in Betty Jo’s final years.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at two o’clock in the afternoon at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, Houston, Texas 77056.
