Alvin Thomas was born December 28, 1935 to the parents of Ralton Thomas and Angel Jackson in Opelousas, Louisiana whom both preceded him in death. Alvin was Angel’s only child and the first of Ralton’s 13 children. As a young child he developed a love for flying, driving and bowling. While still a child he moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana and at the age of 19 he joined the United States Army. Alvin was an active member of the military until 1962.
Alvin met the great love of his life Annette Lathan in 1957 and soon married on February 15, 1958. They lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where they had 3 children. In 1962 they moved to Los Angeles, California where they had their last child. He worked in Aircraft manufacturing industry for 23 years. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling where he won several tournaments and awards. Recreationally he loved to fly airplanes and would take his son and nephew to fly with him on the weekends. Alvin also had a love for games, his favorites being pool and dominos where he let his competitive spirit shine. Alvin became an entrepreneur in 1987 forming his own business Alvin Thomas Trucking where he owned and operated his own trucking line with his wife for 17 years. After retiring in 2004 he moved his family to Houston, Texas where he rekindled his love for bowling. Alvin was soon invited to the Senior Bowling Professional League but turned it down to spend quality time with his family. He worked part time for Avis Rental Services as a car transporter until the month of his death.
Alvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle to many. He had an overwhelming love for his family and close friends. He was a loyal and trusted confidant as well as extremely supportive to all who looked up to him. Alvin was active, social and outgoing up to the last 2 weeks of his life, his strength and determination was admirable to many and he will be truly missed.
Alvin is preceded in death by his brothers Floyd Thomas and James Thomas. He leaves to mourn his memory his wife of 56 years Annette Thomas of Houston, TX; his four children Alvin Thomas Jr., Dedera (Darryl) Jackson, Jennifer (Kenneth) Law of Southern California and Michelle Thomas of Houston, TX. Alvin also leaves his
grandchildren Shanel Hunter, Shante Thomas, Alisha Gregory, Donte Thomas, Lathan Jackson, and Kalah Williams; 2 great grandchildren Kae’lah Daniels and De’arie Thomas and one grand-dog Boomer. His brothers and sisters Mary Jane, Barbara, Virginia, Janet Marie, Debra, Patricia, Rolton Jr., Joseph, Larry, and Roy and a host of nieces and nephews.
